The Department of Infrastructure has said that they are committed to a "joint approach" with Derry City and Strabane District Council to ensure the Peace Bridge is maintained to a high standard.
It comes after MyDerry asked readers for their views on the current state of the iconic structure.
The bridge was opened in June 2011, connecting Ebrington Square with the rest of the city centre.
The question sparked a mixture of responses, with the general consensus being that more needed to be done by the Department of Infrastructure (DfI) and the local council.
People complained of lighting on the bridge being broken, while others had concerns about the bridge being slippery due to moss growth.
One reader responded: "Needs the green moss cleaned on outer rails."
Another wrote: "Definitely does. Between dog poop and people vandalising it sure needs a good clean up."
Meanwhile, a third person said: "Both bridges need a good clean up.
"Nice to see them done before the clipper festival starts."
However, a spokesperson for DfI said DC&SDC had responsibility for the floodlighting of the two bridge support arms.
"The Department's maintenance remit does not extend to cleaning bridges solely for aesthetic reasons as this does not affect the structural integrity," the spokesperson said.
"The Department is responsible for the structural integrity of and public safety on the Peace Bridge to ensure it is safe for public use. DCSDC has responsibility for the floodlighting of the two bridge support arms.
"The Department and Council both recognise the significant importance of the Peace Bridge to the city’s infrastructure, are committed to a joint approach to ensure this iconic structure is maintained to a high standard for the public and visitors and will continue to discuss this at their regular meetings."
