So far nobody’s been able to pry Sean Desai away from the Seahawks. However, they have lost one of Pete Carroll’s longest-tentured assistants. Yesterday, the Buccaneers hired Seattle’s quarterbacks coach Dave Canales as their new offensive coordinator.
Canales confirmed the news this morning on his Twitter account and shared a classy farewell message for the Seahawks organization.
Humbled by my time with @Seahawks and honored to have worked with some of the best talent in the game. Thank you to the players, coaches, administration and the 12s
for the memories. Thrilled for what’s to come, absolutely. But in this moment, I’m thankful for 13 years!— Dave Canales (@DcoachCanales) February 16, 2023
He also greeted the Buccaneers fanbase with a ready-to-work tweet:
Let’s go @Buccaneers ! Ready to get to work, get better every day and win some championships! Thankful to be part of The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Nation! Let’s Get It!

Canales did exceptional work in Seattle, first as their wide receivers coach for seven years and later working with both Russell Wilson and Geno Smith as QBs coach.
However, Canales has his work cut out for him in Tampa. Last season the Bucs only averaged 18.4 points per game despite having Tom Brady running the show. With Brady once again retired and the franchise $55 million over the cap Canales and the Bucs face a rebuild about as difficult as they come in the NFL.
