In many decades of his work, he has gained recognition for his compelling portrayal of great roles and screen presence that can give even the least eventful scenes significance. Washington also gained recognition for being a personality who talks about discipline, perseverance, faith, and responsibility. The acting career of Washington consists of some of the best movies in the last few decades such as 'Malcolm X', 'Philadelphia', 'The Hurricane', 'Training Day', 'American Gangster', 'Flight' and 'Fences'.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences notes that his performances have earned him two acting Oscars - Best Supporting Actor for 'Glory' and Best Actor for 'Training Day'.
