Head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Cleveland Browns cornerback Denzel Ward has a concussion and will remain in the concussion protocol.
The Browns’ star cornerback has not seen any preseason action yet this season, so it is unclear when the concussion might have officially occurred. Ward has been in the concussion protocol for some time now but the concussion wasn’t confirmed until Stefanski’s post-practice press conference on Wednesday.
The former Ohio State Buckeye has had a very successful NFL career in his six seasons since being drafted fourth overall. Since entering the league, he has managed to earn three Pro Bowl honors and is the third highest-paid cornerback on a per-year basis. He has also managed to collect multiple concussions, almost averaging one per NFL season since he began his career in 2018.
Stefanski seems confident in Ward’s progression through the concussion protocol and claims he is in good hands. There is no official word on whether he will be ready for the start of the season and we most likely will not hear an update on him this week. We’ll look for the next update from coach Stefanski after the Browns preseason finale in Seattle.
