Well that’s not ideal. New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen said Friday that the team will be practicing without quarterback-turned-tight end Taysom Hill “for a little bit” after he took a hit to the ribs during Thursday’s practice session; Hill initially left the field for an evaluation and returned to work, but he was held out of Friday’s practice altogether. It makes sense to handle things cautiously this early in the preseason.
Still, it’s a tough blow considering the large role Hill is expected to play on both offense and special teams. The Saints need him to get healthy sooner rather than later. But at least it’s nothing related to last season’s foot injuries.
In the meantime, look for the other tight ends on the roster to get more looks. Third-year pro Adam Trautman needs all the reps he can get. Lucas Krull, an undrafted rookie, also can use more exposure. But it’s frustrating to see Juwan Johnson out of action while managing his own injury (undisclosed). Hopefully the Saints can heal up and get some guys back in the lineup soon with practices open to fans about to kick off.
