Denmark desperate to overcome Portugal and avoid 'difficult' Scotland

Denmark boss Brian Riemer has pinpointed Scotland as one of the toughest teams they could have got in the World Cup draw.

Scotland will play the losers of the Denmark v Portugal UEFA Nations League play-off in March, with the Portuguese strong favourites to progress.

But new Danish boss Riemer reckons being paired with Scotland if they lose has given them extra incentive to win and go into a different group.

He said: "There were two teams I didn't want to be drawn with in the pots - Scotland and Hungary.

"They were the most difficult team we could have drawn from pot three. And we know to our cost, they are able to hurt teams, especially at home.

"They have a lot of quality and play good football and the same can be said for Hungary, so we wanted to avoid those nations.

"But my work over the next couple of months will be about 99.8 per cent concentrated on Portugal.

"We really want to get past them and the draw gives us even more incentive to win.

“So at the moment, we're using all our energy to figure out how we can progress in the Nations League."
