Loose Women star Denise Welch has announced that she has become a grandmother for the first time. The 64-year-old actress and TV personality revealed the news on Friday’s edition of the ITV1 show.
Opening the show, host Charlene White said: “There’s a bit of a Friday feeling in the studio but especially for Denise because you’ve had something special this week, haven’t you?” and Denise replied: “I have. My husband and I became nana and granddad two days ago.”
She then added: “My stepson Lewis and his wife Lizzie gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. I can’t say that much because they haven’t done the photo reveal, so I’ll do that as soon as I can.”

Denise confirmed that she has chosen to be called ‘nana’ by her new grandson. “I’ve gone for nana because when you have blended families, you have to share the baby out between so many people."
“My mum was nana and I had a nana. I wanted Lincoln to be grompa because my grompa was grompa,” Denise added and then Charlene asked: “Grompa rather than grandpa?”
“It’s funny because I never thought of it that way but in the North East, we say grompa. So he’s going to be grandad and Lewis’ mum is going to be Nanny. Lizzie’s mum and dad are just thinking about what they’re going to be.”
Denise married husband Lincoln Townley in 2013. She was previously married to actor Tim Healy between 1988-2012. They have two children together - Matt Healy, who is a band member in The 1975 and Louis Vincent. Loose Women airs on ITV1 on weekdays from 12.30pm.
