Denise Van Outen reflects on the year she turned 50: 'It has been busy, but a very exciting one'

Denise Van Outen has enjoyed a near-40 year career in showbusiness and seems busier than ever after recently celebrating her 50th birthday.

You only have to take one look at her very active social media to gauge that the TV presenter, singer, dancer and actress is fully loving and embracing this next chapter of her life and appears to have a good bunch of people around her.

“It’s been a busy year, but a very exciting one,” the original Essex girl tells the Standard.

“I’m working with Channel 4 on the second series of Secrets of the Supermarket and I’ve got a new album I’m hoping to release this year,” she teases.

The mother-of-one has also found herself an in-demand DJ, spinning the decks at festivals and events across the world.

Her next gig is sure to be nothing short of ‘a-mazing’ as she will be bringing the party to the Crystal Maze Live Experience in London on August 15 for a 90s-themed silent disco.

It’s no secret that this particular decade holds a special place in the former The Big Breakfast presenter’s heart.

“We all love a bit of nostalgia as it usually reminds people of being young with no inhibitions and no responsibilities. It really transports you back to a time of happiness,” she enthused.

Speaking about her involvement in the event, she added: “The Crystal Maze Live Experience is a really fun night out, I’ve been once before myself and I absolutely loved it. I couldn’t think of a better place to play some banging 90s’ house tunes!

“I will be playing remixed classic 90’s house tracks. I don’t take requests, but think the crowd will appreciate the tunes and be able to reminisce about their own memories in the 90s.”

Quizzed on if she could bring one thing back from 90s fashions, the mum-of-one didn’t have to think long.

“The 90’s has had a massive revival and I’ll forever welcome back the return of the choker,” she said. “I used to wear them all the time on The Big Breakfast and still love to wear them now.”
