Demolition of the city's last remaining John Player tobacco warehouse is underway. Up-close snaps show the building being ripped apart by bulldozers as the site makes way for new student accommodation is built on the wide University of Nottingham Jubilee Campus.
Nottingham City Council received an application to knock down the former John Player tobacco warehouse on June 27. The landmark 9-storey building on Wollaton Road, which was one of three in the city to store tobacco, has stood since the 1930s.
The demolition of the building, in Triumph Road, Lenton, has been described as a shame by the Nottingham Civic Society. The university plans to create a 280-bed halls of residence near the site as part of Project Xenia - named after the ancient Greek concept of hospitality.
