Democrats are dismissing attempts to compare Hunter Biden’s trial with former President Donald Trump’s conviction last week.
According to Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, the key distinction lies in the fact that Hunter Biden is not a presidential candidate, unlike Donald Trump. Democrats have refrained from rushing to Hunter Biden’s defense in his criminal case and have not labeled the trial as a 'sham,' as Republicans did with the Trump trial.
Raskin emphasized that Democrats are not undermining the justice system by denouncing Hunter Biden's trial as fraudulent or rigged. He pointed out the irony of a party that claims to uphold religious values aligning itself with an individual who has been convicted of serious offenses, such as paying hush money to a porn star.
Rep. Robert Garcia of California echoed Raskin's sentiments, highlighting that Hunter Biden is not a public figure like the former president. Garcia emphasized the importance of holding Hunter accountable for his actions, while underscoring that the severity of Donald Trump's alleged crimes far surpasses those of Hunter Biden.
When asked about the potential impact of Hunter Biden's trial on his father's presidential prospects, Garcia emphasized that President Biden cares for his son but acknowledged that Hunter has made mistakes that require accountability. However, Garcia asserted that these issues are separate from the president's election campaign.
