On Capitol Hill, Democrats are dismissing attempts to compare Hunter Biden’s trial with former President Donald Trump’s conviction last week.
Democrats are emphasizing the distinction between the two cases, pointing out that Hunter Biden is not a presidential candidate, unlike Donald Trump. Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland highlighted that Democrats have not rushed to defend Hunter Biden in his criminal case or labeled the trial as a 'sham,' contrasting it with the Republican response to Trump's trial.
Raskin stated, 'Democrats are not out there saying that Hunter Biden's trial is a farce, it's a fraud, it's rigged. We're not attacking the justice system.' He criticized the Republican party for supporting Trump despite his criminal convictions, questioning their alignment with someone who has been found guilty of serious offenses.
Representative Robert Garcia of California echoed Raskin's sentiments, emphasizing that Hunter Biden is not a public figure like Trump and should be held accountable for his actions. Garcia emphasized that the allegations against Hunter Biden do not equate to the numerous crimes committed by Donald Trump.
When asked about the potential impact of Hunter Biden's trial on his father's presidential campaign, Garcia expressed confidence in President Biden's love for his son but stressed the importance of holding Hunter accountable for his mistakes. He dismissed the notion that Hunter's actions would significantly influence the upcoming election.
