Democratic Senator John Fetterman recently met with President-elect Donald Trump's defense secretary pick, Pete Hegseth, on Capitol Hill. Fetterman did not disclose whether he would support Hegseth following the meeting, which lasted for about half an hour.
During a brief interaction with reporters after the meeting, Fetterman humorously mentioned their agreement that the Steelers would win. He emphasized that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss various matters, including the misconduct allegations against Hegseth, who is a former Fox News host.
Fetterman, being the first Senate Democrat to engage with Hegseth, stated that there was no significant update to share post the meeting. He highlighted the importance of the meeting itself, stating, 'The news is that we actually had a meeting. We had a conversation, and that’s what happened.'
When asked about his stance on supporting Hegseth, Fetterman expressed his intention to follow the process and consider the evaluations of his colleagues from the other side of the aisle. He refrained from disclosing specific details about what it would take to earn his vote for Hegseth.
Following a subsequent meeting with GOP Senator Pete Ricketts, Hegseth declined to comment on whether Fetterman had indicated the conditions for his support. Similarly, he did not respond to questions regarding the misconduct allegations raised against him during the meeting with Fetterman.
