Texas Rep. Lloyd Doggett, a Democratic member of Congress, recently made headlines by calling on President Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 race. Doggett emphasized the urgency of Biden stepping aside, stating that the need for him to do so has only increased since Doggett's initial call for action.
Despite acknowledging Biden as a 'good man' and 'an American patriot,' Doggett argued that the upcoming election is crucial, and the Democratic Party must select the strongest candidate to secure victory. He expressed concerns that delaying the decision to step aside would hinder the chances of a new candidate defeating Donald Trump.
While Doggett refrained from naming a specific replacement for Biden, he cautioned that Biden should not want his legacy to be defined by potentially allowing a 'tyrant' to take control of the country.
Joining Doggett in urging Biden to consider stepping aside were Democratic Reps. Mike Quigley of Illinois and Seth Moulton of Massachusetts. Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey also weighed in, advising Biden to carefully evaluate his candidacy's viability in defeating Trump.
