A group of Democratic governors shared their perspectives on President Biden's re-election bid following recent gaffes that raised concerns about his suitability to represent the United States on the world stage. The incidents involved Biden confusing Vice President Kamala Harris with former President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with Russia's Vladimir Putin.

During the National Governor's Association (NGA) summer meeting, Colorado Governor Jared Polis emphasized the importance of standing up to Russian aggression in Ukraine, as highlighted by Zelenskyy's plea for support in constructing bomb shelters to protect civilians.

While acknowledging the need for potential strategy adjustments to ensure competitiveness in the upcoming election, Polis underscored the significance of protecting democracy and supporting global alliances like NATO.

Hawaii Governor Josh Green defended Biden's leadership, citing his prompt response to crises such as the Maui wildfires and contrasting it with Trump's perceived lack of engagement. Green stressed the need for bipartisan respect for leaders with years of service, regardless of party affiliation.

Green also drew parallels between the challenges faced by Ukraine and Hawaii, pointing to security concerns posed by geopolitical tensions in the Pacific region. He advocated for U.S. support for Ukraine and called for an end to the conflict, irrespective of the presidential leadership.

Regarding the upcoming election, Green highlighted the significance of the abortion issue in mobilizing women voters across party lines, suggesting that Biden's stance could sway their support in his favor.

Delaware Governor John Carney expressed confidence in Biden's ability to foster civility and unity in political discourse, aligning with the NGA's theme of 'Disagree Better.' Carney endorsed Biden as the candidate best suited to lead the country forward in promoting constructive dialogue and understanding.
