The Substance actress Demi Moore may be accustomed to setting fashion trends across Hollywood – but her home is just as ahead of the curve. To celebrate Moore's Golden Globe victory, we revisited her Instagram account (a profile that's already served as a source of inspiration for the celebrity style team), and we almost missed a focal point sofa that was way ahead of current design trends.
This 2025, designers predict we'll get more daring with our furniture color choices – and arguably, no piece offers this opportunity quite like our living room sofa.
'A bold, patterned sofa is the ultimate focal piece that can transform a neutral room. Patterns – whether inspired by Kilim, Moroccan prints, vintage florals, or stripes – bring texture, depth, and a touch of worldly charm,' comments David Harris, the design director at Andrew Martin.
'These patterns are more than decorative; they tell stories of travel and discovery, adding layers of personality and warmth. In 2025, it's about blending cultural influences with modern design to create a space that feels both sophisticated and adventurous.'

Bohemian Style
It's hard to find a sofa that makes a statement quite like this piece, complete with a symmetrical blue, yellow, and purple pop pattern (for a rich Bohemian aesthetic). It'll look stunning in a neutral living room – if you dare.
Piped Edges
This throw pillow shows off a standout geometric design that brings a modern boho vibe to any sofa or bedscape. It's the perfect alternative for those who want to flirt with the patterned aesthetic without going all-out (though you may want to after taking this initial small plunge).
Kiln-dried hardwood frame
Think of all the beauty of a patterned sofa with subtler undertones. This sofa boasts the understated 'only-at-Anthro' tiger print, while the woven jacquard upholstery lends your space a one-of-a-kind touch.
In Moore's living room, she exhibits a mosaic-style patterned sofa – comprising reds, oranges, turquoise, and navy hues. The honeycomb pattern is eclectic and, in many ways, risky, but it pays off against her otherwise neutral backdrop.
Since patterned sofas are among the expert's favorite design trends for the year ahead, knowing how to style them is vital. Following Moore's lead and pairing your sofa with a neutral-painted wall and wooden floor is a failsafe starting point. This will allow your room to breathe and consequently prevent it from feeling overwhelmed. Megan Holloway, the creative director at Maro Home, also recommends choosing your throw pillows wisely.
'Choosing to place a bold pattern on a sofa is a brilliant way of elevating and adding impact to a room with one unique piece. It creates a focal point and will add that all-important wow factor, especially in neutral spaces. It also allows you to show off your own unique style and personality in your home,' Holloway begins.
'If you do choose a bold, patterned sofa, then layering it with cushions in stripes, plains, or contrasting patterns will help to create a real 'lived-in' look without it feeling overdone, and this will also help to offset neutral walls beautifully. A good rule of thumb is one large scale print + a stripe + a small print for an effortlessly put together scheme. If a multi-print fabric feels too much, then opting for a large-scale print in a single color will help add interest while still feeling easy to style with other patterns or plains.'
