Demetri Mitchell under Hibs interrogation as former Hearts star's 'big club' jibe catches up with him

New Hibs signing Demetri Mitchell has a lot to answer for - and the club have wasted no time in turning the screw.

Former Manchester United winger Mitchell has penned a two-and-a-half year deal at Easter Road as he becomes Shaun Maloney 's replacement for Martin Boyle.

The versatile 25-year-old has impressed since swapping Old Trafford for Blackpool, helping the Seasiders gain promotion from League One and consolidate themselves in the Championship this season.

Before that however Mitchell spent 18 months across the city at Tynecastle in two separate spells on loan at Hearts.

And in that time he made himself an unpopular figure among the Hibees faithful - with one particular interview in which he claimed the Easter Road side weren't a "big club" getting some tongues wagging.

He said: "There's only a handful of big clubs in the Scottish league: Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts, so it's a good club and that's why I've come back"

And when asked if Hibs were included he replied: "Hibs? Who are they?"

In a hilarious video addressing the elephant in the room, Hibs have put Mitchell under an "interrogation," holding him responsible for that jibe as well as a handful of tweets celebrating Hearts' successes.

And a humbled Mitchell responded: "Guys, we've all said things that we shouldn't have. I was young, I was immature, but I'm here and I'm buzzing to get going.

"Any more questions? Can I get going? I've got training, sorry, I've got to go."
