Demetri Mitchell 'could join' Hibs January transfer clearance as Lee Johnson squad cut continues

Demetri Mitchell looks set for the Hibs exit door as Lee Johnson continues his January clear out, according to a report.

The Daily Record say the former Manchester United youngster could depart Easter Road this month if the capital club can at least bring in a part of the fee they shelled out to land his services 12 months ago. The wing-back was one of Shaun Maloney's big signings last January but he's fallen out of favour in the current regime during an injury hit season.

He's only managed three top team appearances this campaign and just ten in total since making the switch to Leith. During his career he's previously enjoyed two loan stints at Hearts while he's also turned out for Blackpool south of the border. His last outing for the Hibees came back in November against Ross County.

Steven Bradley has already been moved on to Livingston with Joao Balde joining Arbroath in the Scottish Championship. Forest Green Rovers have had a bid accepted for Jake Doyle-Hayes with star defender Ryan Porteous set to leave also. He has plenty of interest south of the border as well as Italy as the January clearance kicks into full gear.

Speaking about transfers, Johnson said: "We need outs. The outs are as important as the ins, again the mediocrity we have got — I’m just being honest now. I’m in a place where I have to come out swinging. I’m not disrespecting players but decisions have not been good enough and we need to be better.

"We are not a million miles off. One or two or three good players— five, six, seven, eight, 10 outs - it doesn’t matter to me. I’d rather have the quality in the XI and bump up the young players.

"They are not quite ready yet for the talent we've got at the club, that’s just one physical nature, but we do have some quality players in there. That will serve us well in 18 months to two years’ time but senior players have got to step up.

"We can’t keep being average at best. For a club like this, it’s just not good enough. Everyone needs to tell themselves some home truths."
