Demarai Gray gives verdict on penalty against Everton and 'positives' despite loss at Spurs

Everton forward Demarai Gray believes there are plenty of "positives to take" despite Everton losing 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday night.

The 26-year-old had a good opportunity to put Frank Lampard 's side in the lead, but he blasted his shot over the Tottenham goal before Harry Kane went down for a penalty.

England's captain Kane went to ground easily after Jordan Pickford fumbled the ball and Gray says it was "unfortunate" the penalty was given against Everton in North London.

Gray was interviewed by Viaplay after the loss at Tottenham left them in the bottom half of the Premier League table with just two wins from 10 matches played.

"I have the opportunity in the first half to put that in and maybe it changes the game," said Gray. "I think coming to Spurs away is always going to be difficult, but I think we made it difficult for them. The penalty was a bit unfortunate. There's a lot of positives to take from the game, but it's still disappointing.

"There's a lot of positives to take, still a lot to work on and I think it starts on the training pitch. We weren't great against United on the ball, but we showed character and that's been big for us this season. The positive thing for us is that we have another game on Wednesday and that's a good opportunity to try and get some points on the board."

Gray was asked whether Kane dived to win the penalty, but the 26-year-old believes any attacker would look to go down given that opportunity inside the box.

"I think if there's any chance of contact in the box an attacker might go down and whether it's a penalty or not, it was given and it's gone now. That changed the game for us, but that's for the referee to make decisions," added Gray.
