After a long and eventful NBA offseason, training camp kicks off next week as the 2022-23 regular season is right around the corner.
On Monday, CBS Sports released their updated NBA player rankings for each position. For small forwards, Bulls All-Star DeMar DeRozan landed at No. 8 on the list.
Jasmyn Wimbush of CBS Sports explains:
“During All-Star weekend last year, Luka Doncic joked with DeRozan and asked him how many times he missed a mid-range shot, with the Mavericks star suggesting he’s never missed one. While that’s not exactly true, it’s not wildly ridiculous to assume. DeRozan can bring the ball up the floor five times in a row, pull up from 12 feet out and make all five. That’s just how deadly his mid-range game is. But while he may get the most attention for that area of his game, he also shot 64.2 percent in the restricted area last season, and though he averaged just under two 3-point attempts a game, he still made them at a 35 percent clip.”
DeRozan had a career-year in his first season with the Bulls in 2021-22, averaging 27.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game while shooting 50% from the floor.
Despite coming off All-NBA Second Team honors, the No. 8 spot at small forward feels right for Deebo, who would be lucky to match or surpass his production from last season again in his career.
