The Chicago Bulls are going to have a lot of question marks surrounding them at this year’s trade deadline. They have a bunch of choices to make in regard to which players they’ll decide to keep around. Zach LaVine seems like a prime candidate to be moved, but they could look to trade some other veterans, too.
One guy to keep an eye on will be DeMar DeRozan, as the 34-year-old wing is in the final year of his contract and hasn’t gotten an extension done with the Bulls yet. If they don’t trade him and don’t extend him, they risk losing him for nothing, as he’ll be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
DeRozan recently spoke about trade rumors, noting that he tries to keep his mind on the court.
“I just focus in on trying to play great basketball,” DeRozan said via KC Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago. “I was overly happy how we competed and played vs. Phoenix. It came down to the last big shot. We’ve been playing well. That’s all I can control and worry about. Everything else will take care of itself.”
There haven’t been too many trade rumors surrounding DeRozan heading into the deadline, but it would make sense for the Bulls to explore potential deals.
So far this season, DeRozan is averaging 21.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 5.3 assists while shooting 46.1% from the field and 33.9% from behind the three-point line.
The Bulls have been playing fairly well, and DeRozan is a big part of it, but trade season could lead to changes.
