Delta Airlines (DAL) CEO Ed Bastian is on the messaging beat at the moment.
There’s no question that the airline industry has a bad vibes problem at the moment. Delays and cancellations are still a problem, as are disruptive behavior from customers. Ticket prices continue to rise, and so does the congestion levels at airports.
Don’t Miss: New York Airport Is About To Lose An Airline
So perhaps in an effort to spread some positive news, Bastian appeared on CBS News and sent an email to SkyMiles members, highlighting some of the recent changes the airline has made.
This summer, Delta will expand their offerings to include 1,500 weekly flights to 80 international cities, and has also introduced some brand new routes, including New York-JFK to Geneva, Switzerland and Atlanta to Nice, France. Oui!
And after months of stories about the lack of pilots, and ongoing pickets (and potential strikes) from Pilot unions who allege they are being unfairly compensated, Bastian also said that Delta has “spent months preparing for this busy travel season, investing heavily to ensure our team of 90,000 worldwide is ready to deliver a reliable, high-quality experience."
The airline has also taken steps to cut down on congestion in airports and in their Delta Sky Clubs, and have begun to expand their clubs in Minneapolis, Chicago and Kansas City, and have added a second Club in New York-JFK, set to open later this summer. He also touted a new “on the go” Club experience in select cities, a food and beverage option for Delta Sky Club customers in a hurry. They’ve also added healthier food options during flights, served on eco-conscious dining ware.
He also touted that free onboard wi-fi is now available to all SkyMiles members, and the company will be rolling out its new Delta Sync program this summer, which will let customers get special promotions, including a free trial of Paramount+, as well as travel tips.
In addition, Delta will soon release the documentary “The Steepest Climb, a behind-the-scenes story about “the heroic efforts of Delta people to carry us safely through the pandemic. It’s a project that’s near and dear to my heart, and I’d encourage you to give it a viewing while you’re on board.”
And just in case you missed it, he reminded customers that they can check in, get a boarding pass, upgrade their seat and otherwise adjust their flight in the Fly Delta app, on delta.com, and they can use the Messaging feature for assistance.
