Delivery apps tap co-pay scheme to drive growth

Online food delivery operators are wooing merchants to participate in the "Thai Chuay Thai Plus" scheme by offering various incentives, ranging from lower gross profit (GP) charges to stronger advertising visibility among consumers.

The co-payment campaign runs from June to September.

Line Man Wongnai spent 200 million baht on media and cut its GP charge to 15% for merchants joining the campaign, while ShopeeFood lowered its GP fee to 13%.

Merchants need to choose one platform to participate in the programme, allowing them to tap into the purchasing power of a combined 30 million food delivery app users.

"Line Man always prioritises support for government policies. We are ready to dedicate our platform's capabilities to alleviating economic pressures through the co-pay scheme," said Yod Chinsupakul, chief executive of Line Man Wongnai.

The company wants to deliver benefits to merchants, drivers and users, unlocking income opportunities while reducing the cost of living, he noted.

Merchants can join the Line Man Wongnai campaign from June 10. In addition to a lower GP fee, the platform is offering merchants a 5,000-baht coupon to boost sales and up to 1,200 baht in credit to increase their advertising visibility on the app.

The company is also offering a subsidy of up to 10,000 baht for the purchase of a Wongnai point-of-sale (POS) hardware system, as well as merchant loans from LineBK.

ShopeeFood, the food delivery arm of e-commerce giant Shopee, announced it will run its campaign from June 15 to Sept 30.

In addition to the GP fee reduction, ShopeeFood is offering participating restaurants coupons worth up to 9,000 baht to increase sales, alongside up to 1,200 baht in advertising credits to increase their visibility.

Merchants earn access to tailored credit facilities via its SEasyCash for Sellers programme, as well as commission rebates through the Shopee Affiliates network.

Through a partnership with Ocha POS, merchants can claim up to 11,000 baht in hardware discounts, bundled with 12 months of free POS software.

For app users, ShopeeFood is offering discounts worth a combined 5,000 baht for transactions made via the ShopeePay and SPayLater systems, supplemented by free delivery if the delivery fee does not exceed 10 baht.

Morakot Yipintsoi, chief executive of Yip In Tsoi, said the company will also participate in the scheme.

A group of investors led by Yip In Tsoi acquired the Robinhood food delivery app from SCB X Plc in 2024.

Mrs Morakot urged the government to provide full support to local digital platforms, enabling them to compete on par with dominant foreign rivals.

The government frequently emphasises the need to build a national platform, but it could leverage existing platforms instead of building a new one, she noted.

"By collaborating with us, the government can create a powerful catalyst that truly drives the nation's digital economy forward," said Mrs Morakot.
