GUWAHATI: Opposition parties in Assam, including Congress, accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of preparing constituency delimitation exercise at the behest of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, which they said is aimed at fulfilling the latter’s vested interest to stay in power for a longer term and not to protect the interest of indigenous communities.
Assam PCC president Bhupen Borah at a news conference here on Wednesday accused Sarma of giving minorities an opportunity to play a determining role in five out of the 14 parliamentary constituencies and in 14 more assembly constituencies, keeping in mind “his future plans”, in case of any rift with RSS-BJP.
