Delighted Wishaw boss David Dunn says his side got a monkey off their back by bagging their first league win of the season against Maryhill on Saturday.
But he says his side has played better and lost in the West of Scotland League Second Division this term.
Wishaw emerged with a 2-0 win at Maryhill on Saturday, their first in five attempts, and Dunn reckons it puts them right back into the reckoning.
And it was helped by goalkeeper Dean Wilson saving a penalty at 0-0.
He said: “I was delighted to get our first league win of the season, coming up after a good win in the Scottish Junior Cup [against Bridge of Don Thistle], so I was delighted to get that.
“It would be wrong of me to say it wasn’t affecting us that we hadn’t won, because you’ve still got that monkey on your back you’re trying to get rid of.
“It puts us back in touching distance with all of the teams above us. That’s really important, because there are a lot of teams round about the same sort of level, so it’s very tight and there are a lot of teams beating each other.
“You could see that with the league table. It was very tight, and even though we hadn’t won, even just that one win takes us quite a bit up, and now we’re back within maybe a couple of wins of being right up there.”
