Delicious street truck takes second place for 'best dish' at Taste of Dublin awards

A popular Dublin food truck that specialises in a south Indian speciality had a brilliant time at the Taste of Dublin Awards after taking second place in the "best dish" category.

Dosa Dosa, like the name would suggest, serves up the South Indian delight Dosa, a thin flat bread encasing a variety of fillings such as Potato Masala, Chicken Utappam and Paneer.

The purple food truck is located on Grand Canal Street and Stoneybatter and is owned by Karthik Thiru.

Dosa Dosa originally opened in Stoneybatter just before the pandemic began. Although lockdown created a substantial hurdle for the business, its growth was by no means stunted with a popularity that is well earned by serving up unique and exciting flavours in both Dublin locations.

The business said they had a "great time" at the Taste of Dublin awards last weekend. They said on social media: "Delighted to also come 2nd in the ‘best dish’ competition. Thanks for all the hard work from the Dosa Dosa team and support from the team at Taste!"

Owner Karthik spoke to Dublin Live back in March about Dosa Dosa's journey. He said: "Before it looked how it does now, it was just a bad looking car park. We put a lot of time and effort into making this space look good. The whole plan is to make it a kind of street food yard.

"Griolladh came on board in September. Krewe came at the end of January. We're waiting for another two to join as well. We want proper street food people.

"Our food is real authentic street food. It's proper South Indian. I think we are the first in Dublin to do such a wide range for this type of food.

"When customers try it, they say it's completely different from the Indian food they normally get. Dosa is completely gluten free."

Karthik is from a town called Thanjavur in South India where he learned how to cook from his mum.

He completed his masters degree in University of Limerick in 2010/2011 and after that worked in IT, all while missing the flavour of home. Finally in 2019, he decided to purchase a Volkswagen which would be converted into a kitchen, and Dosa Dosa was born.

Dosa Dosa at Grand Canal Street is open from Wednesday to Sunday.
