Chinese food can be enjoyed in a restaurant or on your couch at home, but none of them can replicate the thrill of eating your food in an Asian themed food market.
Renshaw Street Food Market aims to bring this authentic dining experience, complete with attractive neon signs and a wide variety of vendors to Liverpool city centre. It is these signs which draw your attention as soon as you enter the market, located on the Berry Street, Bold Street and Leece Street junction.
The are mottos written in English and Chinese, complete with stylistic artwork, make for a truly unique experience and some truly Insta-grammable content. It has only been enhanced with the colourful Chinese lanterns that were being fitted as I ate. There was also bustling atmosphere when I arrived at 1pm, with a young crowd of diners. It soon quietened, but it is no doubt popular on an evening or a weekend too.

There a variety of cuisines to choose from, from Mexican Street Food to Italian deserts. However, in honour of Chinese New Year, I tried out its Chinese outlets.
I checked out Dagu Rice Noodle and ordered their Tomato Rice Noodle Soup. There was a small wait for it to arrive, but it was piping hot when it did. The soup came in an elaborate black bowl, with steam flying off and the noodles kept separate.
It was the perfect broth for a cold winter's day, with the Chinese Chives, Chinese cabbage, ham, minced pork and other ingredients mixing perfectly together to warm me up. I would say this dish might not be the best option if you want something quick to eat, as it did take a while to become cool down a little. However, as a hot soup it served its purpose very well.
Mong Kok Dim Sum was also delicious with its Roast Duck and Boiled Rice. The duck was soft and and easily off the bone, with plenty of filling rice to go with it. I felt as though I could have ate several portions of this meal, but there were other venders I wanted to try.
Z.X. Fresh Fried Chicken intrigued me, and I promptly ordered two spicy chicken wings. They were the perfect level of spice for me, with a good kick that didn't leave me scrambling for some water. The wings themselves were succulent, and again I finished them feeling I could have ordered more if I wanted.
Soon came the craving for something sweet and thankfully Ji Dong Bubble Tea was on hand to help. I opted for the Yoghurt Strawberry, which was a good choice. As I drank, I could taste the delicious mini strawberries. Maybe it was my sweet tooth talking, but this was my favourite thing from the market.
My bank account was also smiling. All of this food and drink cost a combined £25.30, which I think is a good price considering I had two full meals, a snack and a drink.
Renshaw Street Food Market would be a great place to visit purely for the food. It's perfect especially for someone who loves and wants to discover authentic Chinese food, complete with native presentation and chopsticks to eat with. The vendor's fast service make it suitable for a quick lunch or an evening meal.
However, it's the experience which truly makes this food market unique to others. The stylish signs within the large interior are a delight. While I did not try other outlets, I'm sure this venue will work for those who would rather opt for sushi, enchiladas or a tiramisu. I've promised myself to visit again to see if this is the case.
Renshaw Street Market is located at 85-97 Renshaw St, Liverpool, L1 2SP. You can visit its Instagram here.
