New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took a jibe at the Center on Thursday, and said that the country's money is not for waiving loans of rich friends of politicians. Kejriwal was addressing the media.
Kejriwal's reaction came on PM Modi's statement on freebies. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said, "freebies will restrict India from becoming self-reliant and increase the burden on taxpayers."
Kejriwal posted a video on Twitter slamming the Prime Minister's statement and said, "taxpayers are betrayed when their tax money is being used to waive off loans of rich friends."
Kejriwal said that in 2014, the budget of the Central Government was about 20 lakh crores. Today the Center has a budget of about 40 lakh crores. So the question arises: Where has this money gone? This has gone in waiving off the loans of 10-10 lakh crores of their rich friends.
Kejriwal said that the Modi government at the Center is contemplating to stop the free schemes launched for the poor of the country. He said it is surprising that the Center does not have funds even after levying and increasing taxes on everything in the last few years. The big question is where did the Centre's money go? Is the money of the country meant for waiving off the loans of friends of politicians?
Kejriwal further said that during 75 years since Independence, no tax has ever been imposed on poor men’s food. But this government has made milk, curd, and other food items dearer by imposing taxes. Besides petrol and diesel are under the burden of various taxes. The government is earning huge revenue from all these taxes but does not want to give due facilities to the poor.
The Chief Minister added that the Central Government is planning to even withdraw basic facilities like free treatment and free education to poor children in government hospitals and schools. As a result many state governments have increased the fees in their schools.
