NEW DELHI: At a time when Delhi University needs space to expand, it is fighting a battle to get back land allotted to it in 2004. But for the university to get breathing space, it has to pay Rs 38.3 crore to have the squatters removed, having already paid Rs 65.8 lakh earlier for the same purpose.
In 2004, the Union urban development ministry allotted 2.7 acre of land to DU’s South Campus. While DU has regularly paid the licence fees and ground fee since, the land agreement also contained a clause requiring the university to pay any cost arising from the eviction of any potential illegal occupants of the plot.
