Delhi school & office holiday September 11: Schools and several government offices across Delhi will remain closed on September 11 in view of the upcoming 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit. The holiday is expected to help reduce traffic and public inconvenience as the national capital prepares for heightened security and movement restrictions during the international event.
The Directorate of Education (DoE) said in a circular issued on Sunday that all schools under its jurisdiction will observe a holiday on September 11. The order covers government, government-aided and recognised unaided private schools.
Why are Delhi schools closed on September 11?
The holiday has been announced in connection with arrangements for the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit. The authorities are taking measures to manage security, logistics and the movement of motorcades linked to the event.
The decision follows an earlier announcement that Central Government and Delhi Government offices would also remain closed on September 11. The move is aimed at limiting public movement and easing pressure on roads during the summit-related arrangements.
Delhi traffic restrictions during BRICS Summit
The Delhi Traffic Police has been carrying out rehearsals ahead of the summit to prepare for motorcade movements and other traffic requirements.
As part of the traffic management plan for events scheduled between September 11 and 13, diversions have been planned at 22 locations. Traffic movement is also expected to be regulated across more than 35 roads.
A motorcade rehearsal was conducted earlier in the week, with restrictions and diversions enforced between 10 am and 3 pm on selected routes.
Delhi Traffic Police to use drones for traffic monitoring
The Delhi Traffic Police is also using drones to monitor traffic conditions in real time across key parts of the city.
According to Additional Commissioner of Police Vijayanta Goyal Arya, drone surveillance is being carried out over major intersections, arterial roads and areas that are prone to congestion. The aerial view can help officials identify traffic build-up and respond to bottlenecks more quickly.
Special attention is also being given to inter-state border points and locations where vehicles are likely to queue up. Officials can use drone inputs to assess the length and spread of traffic queues and make on-ground changes where required.
What to expect in Delhi from September 11 to 13
The summit-related traffic arrangements will remain important throughout the three-day period. September 12 and 13 fall on a Saturday and Sunday, which could mean comparatively lower traffic volumes than a normal working weekend, although restrictions linked to official movements may still affect several routes.
People travelling across Delhi during the BRICS Summit period are likely to face diversions or regulated traffic on selected roads. Commuters should therefore check the latest Delhi Traffic Police advisories before setting out.
With schools and government offices closed on September 11, authorities are hoping to reduce the number of daily commuters on the roads and make it easier to manage traffic and security during the BRICS Leaders’ Summit.
