NEW DELHI: Public Works Department (PWD) has initiated the process of constructing a foot overbridge in the Majnu ka Tilla area.
The department has floated a tender requesting proposals from private firms to construct a steel foot overbridge on road number 45 at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore and within six months. There will be two passenger lifts on each side of the foot overbridge along with escalators for the public.
Majnu ka Tilla is one of the fastest growing food destinations in the capital and a famous hangout spot for students. It offers a range of pan-Asian cuisines. The area has been selected by the Delhi government for redevelopment under its ambitious food hub policy. The government is working on the redevelopment of the market area, which is being directly monitored by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
According to the government, basic infrastructural needs of the area are being identified at present. After this, a design competition will be organised. Post selection of the best design, the redevelopment work of the area will start.
As per the tender issued by the department, the contractor who gets selected will have to work with the police department regarding a plan for traffic diversion in the area. They will also have to do a survey of service utility lines beneath the area identified for construction and other such conditions that may hamper the redevelopment work.
