NEW DELHI: Delhi Fire Service (DFS) has started a pilot project of training 1,100 civil defence volunteers, including women, to assist firefighters during major fires in the city. The move comes after a rise in fire cases in Delhi.
A hundred people from each revenue district in batches of 50 would be trained by DFS. So far in June, they have imparted basic firefighting skills to two batches. “We are training volunteers in every district so that they can reach the spot within a short period and assist firefighters. After receiving a call, we will inform the DDMA control room about the requirement and they will send us the volunteers,” an officer said.
