Delhi: MCD site gives contact details of safai staff, malis

NEW DELHI: In a citizen-centric move, lieutenant governor V K Saxena on Wednesday launched a new feature, Swachhta Sainiks, on the revamped website of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Under this feature, residents can now find the names and phone numbers of sanitation workers and gardeners allotted to specific streets and parks to address their sanitation, hygiene and cleanliness needs.

More than 57,000 sanitation workers have been working in MCD’s 12 zones, and their deployment and names of their sanitary inspector are now available on mcdonline.nic.in. The details of nearly 5,000 gardeners and 400 supervisors can also be found on the website.

The feature is under trial for sometime, but contains all information. “With this first-of-its-kind initiative in Delhi, hapless citizens who had been till now running from pillar to post for their basic sanitation and hygiene-related needs and were approaching senior officials and public representatives with their grievances will get much needed relief,” stated the LG’s office.

On opening the home page, a citizen can click on “select service area”, and then go to the zone-ward-colony. On entering the required zone, the system leads to a menu with the lists of “Safai Sainiks” and “Malis”.

While reviewing the IT initiatives undertaken by MCD earlier, Saxena instructed officials to make all services and regulatory functions IT-enabled by July 31 and specifically asked for making sanitation and gardening services online.
