Rouse Avenue Court

New Delhi: A Delhi court today extended the Judicial Custody of Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia till April 26 in connection with a money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam.

Sisodia was produced before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of Rouse Avenue Court on the expiry of his previously extended judicial custody.

Sisodia has also filed an interim bail application before the Rouse Avenue Court on Monday citing campaigning for the upcoming Lok Sabha election. The arguments on the Interim bail application were partly heard and now will be heard again on April 20.

Appearing for Sisodia. Senior Advocate Mohit Mathur argued that the trial in the excise Policy case will take a considerable time and due to the upcoming elections, he be granted bail.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja had heard the arguments of Sisodia's counsel, and the counsel appearing for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Sisodia was arrested in February 2023 by CBI. Subsequently, the ED also arrested him.

Soon after his arrest, Sisodia had resigned from the post of Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Government on February 28, 2023.

Allegations against Sisodia are that he was a part of the team which formulated Delhi’s New Excise Policy. It is alleged that huge kickbacks were received in place of allocating licences to the traders.
