NEW DELHI: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has allocated a tender for constructing a state-of-the-art building for veterinary hospital at Moti Bagh and the work will start from September.
The two-storey building will be constructed near Bidhan Chandra Vidyalaya at an estimated cost of Rs 2.5 crore. It is likely to be completed by June. “The facility will be equipped with x-ray facilities, examination, procedure and registration rooms, recovery room, outpatient departments and other advanced facilities,” said officials.
The project aims to providing comprehensive medical care under one roof to strays as well as pet animals. The hospital is expected to cater to the needs of 150-200 animals daily. The new building will be built over an area of 420 square metres and the structure will be made quake-proof, said NDMC vice-chairman Satish Upadhyay.
“As the existing facilities and infrastructure at Charak Palika Hospital were inadequate, a decision was taken to develop a new building at the site, which was allocated by L&DO in March 2021,” said Upadhyay.
The hospital will also keep details of sterilisation done by NGOs in the NDMC area. “But due to limited space, no provision for sterilisation/operation of animals can be made here. During a meeting with officials and representatives of NGOs last week, I issued a direction to look for a place nearby for starting our own sterilisation centre and NGOs will operate from that place only. Suggestion for third-party audit of the sterilisation work done by NGOs was also given,” said Upadhyay.
