A personnel of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) was allegedly assaulted and attacked with swords amid protests in Connaught Place, New Delhi on Tuesday. The incident has led police to register an FIR and initiate an investigation.
An alleged video of the incident shows a mob attacking a man, when the RAF personnel stepped in to rescue him. A scuffle reportedly broke out between the officer and protesters, after which he was separated from his team.
The footage appears to show two men attacking him with swords, while another individual was carrying a stick. The personnel was seen attempting to escape as the mob allegedly chased him.
Assault Escalates Amid Chaos
Another purported video shows the RAF personnel trying to flee before someone trips him, causing him to fall. He is then allegedly surrounded and beaten by the mob.
Police Confirm FIR, Probe Underway
Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Sachin Sharma confirmed the incident, stating that an FIR has been registered.
Multiple FIRs Registered Across District
Meanwhile, Delhi Police have registered 10 FIRs in connection with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests across the New Delhi district.
Officials said:
- Four FIRs were registered at Parliament Street police station
- Three at Connaught Place
- One each at Mandir Marg, Barakhamba Road and Kartavya Path police stations
Allegations of Violent Behaviour
Police alleged that during Monday’s protest, demonstrators displayed “unruly, aggressive and violent behaviour” and refused to disperse despite repeated warnings and lawful directions.
Charges Filed Under Multiple Laws
The FIRs have been registered under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act.
One FIR relates to the alleged unauthorised use of a drone during the Parliament session. Another concerns an alleged conspiracy behind the violence Two others pertain to obstruction of government work, assault on police personnel and damage to public property
