Delhi BJP expels Vikas Garg from party after arrest in money laundering case linked to Mahadev app

New Delhi: Delhi BJP has expelled its leader Vikas Garg, who has been arrested in connection with a money-laundering case linked to the Mahadev online betting app, from the party, sources said on Thursday.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Garg, the chairman of Ebix Group, on Tuesday in the multi-crore money laundering case linked to the Mahadev betting app.

"Garg has been removed from the post of economic cell convenor of Delhi BJP. His primary membership of the party stands cancelled," a senior party functionary said.

Garg, who assumed charge as the convener of the economic cell in 2024, is the son of Delhi BJP veteran and three-time former MLA, Nand Kishor Garg.

According to the ED, the Mahadev betting app case involves high-ranking politicians and bureaucrats from Chhattisgarh, with alleged proceeds of crime amounting to about Rs 6,000 crore.

Garg is the 14th person to be arrested in the case. The agency has named 74 entities as accused in the five chargesheets filed so far before a special PMLA court in Raipur.

On Wednesday, a special PMLA court in Chhattisgarh remanded Garg to 10-day ED custody.

According to the ED, he had acquired a 64 per cent stake in EbixCash through Eraaya Lifespaces by "utilising" funds allegedly generated from illegal betting activities.
