Dele Alli boost, Mourinho claim, Champions League hopes: How Tottenham's 10 outgoings have done

Whilst Antonio Conte tries to lead his Tottenham side to a top four position in his first season in charge, Spurs' outgoings are having a mixture of success and struggle at their new clubs. The Lilywhites are currently two points behind fourth placed Arsenal, as they continue to battle to secure Champions League football for next season.

Tottenham's last two results, defeat to Brighton and draw at Brentford, reiterated how big the summer transfer window will be, in terms of both incomings and outgoings. Meanwhile, some of Spurs' recent outgoings could also be moved on from their new clubs.

There are some who are finding great success with their moves relatively close to home and others thriving abroad. However some are still struggling for game time and football.london takes a look at how the ten outgoings are getting on.

Toby Alderweireld

Al-Duhail's season has come to an end after winning 14 of their 22 games in the Qatar Stars League, finishing in second, 15 points behind first placed Al Sadd. Alderweireld played in 20 of those matches and started all of them, but was sidelined in the final game of the season.

Earlier this month the Belgian took to Twitter to thank the teams he has played for over the years, as he made his 500th official appearance. "Happy to reach 500 official club games.

"From a kid who always dreamed about playing professional football, I feel privileged to be able to do what I love since my beginnings with @AFCAjax, right through my times spent with @Atleti, @SouthamptonFC, @SpursOfficial & @DuhailSC!

"I've made lots of memories and felt a lot of love from the fans. Special thanks go to my family, friends and everyone else who has helped me to achieve this milestone," he tweeted.

Alderweireld's side have also reached the knockout stages of the AFC Champions League, topping their group after six games, so it has been a good first season for the defender in Qatar.

Moussa Sissoko and Danny Rose

As expected, Rose has still not been included in the Watford squad and hasn't played a minute of football for the club since December last year. Roy Hodgson's side are currently 19th in the Premier League and nine points into the relegation zone, and they strongly look like making a return to the Championship.

Sissoko is continuing to enjoy life at his new side, featuring in every league game since he got his first minutes for Watford, making the starting XI in 31 out of his 32 appearances. The Frenchman has also worn the captain's armband in all-but two games since mid-October, highlighting the impact he has had since his move.

Erik Lamela

Lamela is now back in the squad after his shoulder injury and has featured in every game since his return, apart from Sevilla's most recent 3-2 victory against Levante. The Spanish side are currently third in La Liga, level on points with second-place Barcelona but 15 points behind Real Madrid, who are top of the table.

In his last appearance, the Argentine scored his fifth league goal of the season in his side's 3-2 defeat to the current league leaders. Lamela will be hoping he can continue with the regular game time he was getting prior to his injury, with Sevilla, in their final stretch of the season.

Joe Hart

At the end of last month, Hart revealed the brutal exit he had from Tottenham. "There was a big change going on at Tottenham," he explained.

"They needed a lot of people out and a lot of people in. [Nuno Espirito Santo] proceeded to call me in. I knew they were signing another goalkeeper and I was like: 'Do we need to have a conversation?' He said that we'd speak after training.

"He was like: 'I'll speak first. Let's be absolutely clear, no matter what happens, you'll not kick a ball this year. I had got on really well at the club, people had bought into what I was trying to bring and I was like: 'Right, okay.' He said you'll be free to work with the sporting director to get yourself out. However you want to play it, play it," the keeper added.

Hart's move to Celtic couldn't have gone better so far, as he has made 50 appearances for his new club this season, who are currently top of the Scottish Premiership. In his 30 league appearances, the 30-year-old has also kept clean sheets in over half (17).

Juan Foyth and Serge Aurier

The duo are still battling for the right-back spot at Villarreal, with both getting game time in La Liga and the Champions League. The Spanish side are currently seventh in the league, three points off the European spots.

But they may find another route into Europe as Villarreal take on Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final. Their first match of two legs is at Anfield on Wednesday night and both players will be hoping to be involved.

Foyth has made five more league appearances (21) than Aurier, but both have registered an assist. The former Tottenham duo have both recently come out with comments regarding their time under Jose Mourinho.

"When he [Mourinho] arrived, I was doing well, but I had moments when I didn’t deserve to play. I wanted to leave and have more continuity," Foyth told Spanish radio station Onda Cero, via Sport Witness.

However the 24-year-old went on to say how happy he is at his new club. "I never thought I would have a feeling like this for a club. From the first day, I knew I wanted to stay."

Aurier also explained problems he had at Spurs, but with Mourinho's assists. "Football is different compared to 10 years ago. [Mourinho] is still a great coach, but there are things that have evolved," he admitted in an interview with The Telegraph.

"Sometimes players need more love and attention. I'm not speaking for Jose, I'm speaking for his assistant.

"Joao [Sacramento] is a tough guy and he didn't have a good relationship with the dressing room, that's why everything deteriorated. There was a lack of good communication," the defender added.

The duo's attention will now be on having the strongest end to the season possible and trying to win silverware with their club, in the Champions League, with the aim of impressing when given the chance.

Paulo Gazzaniga

Assuming Gazzaniga remains at Fulham, he will be playing in the Premier League next season, as his side have already been promoted. However, the Argentine has made just 12 league appearances for his side during the 2021/22 campaign, still being second choice to Marek Rodak.

Dilan Markanday

There is not much of an update regarding Markanday, as he was ruled out for the rest of the season after the hamstring injury he picked up when making his debut for Blackburn. His side did tweet last month that the 20-year-old was back out on the grass for some training, which is a step in the right direction for his recovery.

Blackburn are currently seventh in the Championship, winning 18 of their 44 games and Markanday will be hoping to continue his recovery and be able to properly start the chapter at his new club, next season.

Dele Alli

Dele is still yet to make a 90 minute appearance for Everton, but has featured in eight of the 12 games he has been involved in so far. The Toffees are edging closer to relegation, winning just eight of their 32 Premier League games this season and currently sitting two points into the danger zone.

The 26-year-old won't have expected to go to a club that ends up in danger of being relegated, but Frank Lampard has been full of praise for the midfielder, despite his slow start. "I really have that massive belief in him as a player. So I don’t think we have to panic, to rush," the Everton boss admitted last month.

"When we signed Dele I certainly saw it as a long term plan. At the moment he has contributed and he has to be patient and wait for his time to start.

"Since Dele has been here I cannot question how he has trained every single day, so it will be working with myself and working on things he can improve on to be the player we want him to be," Lampard added.

"He has got huge talent, his attitude has been great, he has been available for four games and he has come on in all of those and made an impact. His time will absolutely come to start games."
