Dele Alli booed by Besiktas fans during humiliating first-half substitution

Tough time: Dele Alli

Dele Alli's time in Turkey took another downward turn on Wednesday night after being hauled off to boos inside half an hour with Besiktas 2-0 down to a third-division side.

The midfielder, on loan from Everton, has endured a mixed spell in Turkey, making nine appearances and scoring two goals, and was handed another start last night in the Turkish Cup against Sanliurfaspor.

Besiktas soon found themselves 2-0 down and at serious risk of an embarrassing cup exit, and Dele was the man to make way as manager Senul Gunes looked for a way back into the game.

Seeing his number up after just 28 minutes, Dele trotted off with seemingly little reaction as boos rang down on his head from the home support. He was replaced by former Tottenham team-mates Gedson Fernandes.

To make matters worse, Besiktas improved after his withdrawal as they turned the game around to win 4-2, with three goals coming in six second-half minutes, including an assist from substitute Fernandes for Cenk Tosin’s equaliser.

Besiktas sporting director Ceyhun Kazanci recently backed Dele to rediscover his form, telling TRT Sport: "No one can answer whether Dele Alli can do it right now,” he said to TRT Sport.

"He is working very hard. He is a player who reached 100 million euros three years ago. He had a fall. Dele Alli is working intensively. We had intense talks with him before we signed him.

"Senol is famous for returning many players whose careers have been on the decline. We hope that he will be better in the second half of the season."
