Motorists travelling on a major route are facing long delays following a rush hour crash at Sunderland.
There are currently long delays on the A19 northbound and one lane is blocked off following a crash involving up to three vehicles. The collision happened shortly before 8am on Friday on a stretch of the road after the A690 Durham Road at the Herrington Interchange.
Fortunately, no serious injuries are believed to have been sustained and the vehicles are currently being removed. Motorists are being urged to use alternative routes.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 7.30am today, we received a report of a three-vehicle collision on the A19 northbound at Herrington Interchange in Sunderland. Officers are in attendance and no-one is believed to have been seriously injured.
“The vehicles are now in the process of being removed from the carriageway. Motorists should expect delays and use alternative routes if possible.”
Slow traffic has been reported in the area since the crash and heavy traffic has been building up on the A19 southbound route from the A183 to the A690 Durham Road in the roadworks area.
