Delays expected for motorists due to overnight roadworks on Perthshire A85

Overnight roadworks have begun on a major west Perthshire road with motorists to face delays due to a temporary speed limit.

Just over one kilometre of the A85 between Gilmerton and Crieff will receive an improved road surface.

The project got underway yesterday (March 18) at 7pm.

The work is expected to take six nights to complete with activity programmed to take place between 7pm and 7am each night, excluding Friday and Saturday nights.

All works are expected to be complete by 7am on Friday, March 25, subject to weather conditions.

To ensure the safety of motorists and roadworkers a 10mph convoy system will be in place during working hours.

Traffic management will be removed outwith working hours, however a temporary 30mph speed limit will remain in place as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.

BEAR Scotland’s representative for the north west Eddie Ross said: “This surfacing project between Gilmerton and Crieff will greatly improve the quality and safety of this section of the A85.

“The traffic management is necessary to protect roadworkers as well as motorists.

“There may be some delays, however we have taken steps to minimise disruption by carrying out the works overnight and our team will do their best to conduct the works as quickly and safely as possible.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance and would also encourage them to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
