Dejan Kulusevski admits there were not many words inside the Tottenham dressing room after Saturday’s costly draw at Southampton.
Spurs surrendered a two-goal lead against the Premier League’s bottom side when James Ward-Prowse struck a late penalty to level the scores at 3-3.
The result means fifth-placed Newcastle are now just two points off Spurs in fourth with a game in hand as Antonio Conte’s side ceded ground in the race for Champions League football.
Conte’s outburst, of course, has dominated the headlines since.
The Italian launched a scathing attack on his players, branding the squad “selfish” and questioning their spirt, heart and professionalism.
He also appeared to suggest the players’ attitudes stemmed from the culture of the club as a whole and warned chairman Daniel Levy that nothing would change if he were sacked before the end of the season.
Still, the mood of the players is perhaps more prevalent than that of Conte.
The former Chelsea manager is not expected to extend his contract even if he does see out the season, whereas the bulk of the playing staff will stay at the club long-term.
Speaking after the late drama on the south coast, Kulusevski said of the feeling within the dressing room: “We needed this win.
“We knew that these three points were very, very important and we prepared the game a lot. So we are very disappointed and there are not much words inside there.”
