Dejan Kulusevski a doubt for north London derby after Tottenham forward suffers international break injury

Tottenham forward Dejan Kulusevski is a doubt for Saturday's crunch north London derby after returning from international duty with a suspected muscle injury.

Kulusevski underwent a scan on returning to the club on Wednesday after reporting tightness in his hamstring, having started Sweden's Nations League matches against Serbia and Slovenia during the break.

The forward played 90 minutes in Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Slovenia but is now a doubt to feature at the Emirates Stadium, with Antonio Conte set to provide an update at his pre-match press briefing on Thursday afternoon.

Kulusevski's absence would have been a major concern for Conte last season but the Spurs head coach should still be able to call on a front three of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Richarlison as Spurs aim to go top with a win over their rivals.

Son kick-started his season with a blistering hat-trick from the bench in the 6-2 thrashing of Leicester last time out and continued his form over the break, scoring in both of South Korea's games, while Richarlison netted three times across Brazil's friendlies with Ghana and Tunisia.

Kulusevski was dropped for the three games before the meeting with Leicester and Conte revealed he had broken a habit to speak to the Swede.

“I don’t like to give explanations to my players because otherwise in every game I have to speak to one or another one and another one," Conte said.

“But I spoke with Deki because after three times in a row that you go on the bench, I think that he deserved to feel that my trust, my confidence, was like always.”
