Deion Sanders refutes rumor that Shedeur Sanders wouldn’t play for Giants

If Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders were selected by the New York Giants in the 2025 NFL draft, would he pull an Eli Manning and refuse to play for them?

Some of Deion Sanders’ past commentary would suggest potential pitfalls. He previously acknowledged he would step in if the “wrong team” drafted his son.

“Yeah, but I’m not gonna do it publicly, I’d do it privately,” Sanders said in a November interview with Fox Sports 1. “I’m going to be a dad until the cows come home, and with [Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter] as well.”

Are the Giants considered one of those teams?

On Saturday, the X account “NFL Rookie Watch” suggested both the Giants and Cleveland Browns would be among those teams but Deion wasn’t having it, quickly refuting the rumor in a social media post.

“A lie don’t care who tells it,” Deion wrote. “Please stop trying to become relevant by misrepresenting my son. God bless you.”

Deion did not clarify his previous comments, which he repeated more than once this year, possibly suggesting the Giants are among the “approved” teams.

Shedeur has, after all, flirted with the Giants a bit in recent months, including a recent viral video of him playing watch with Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers in the streets of New York City.

The Giants currently hold the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft with four games left to play. It’s a near certainty they select a quarterback in Round 1 and Sanders is considered among the best in the upcoming class.
