After joking about his sons Shedeur and Shilo Sanders not leaving Colorado anytime soon, Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders might actually be hinting that Shedeur won’t declare for the 2024 NFL Draft.
Speaking with sports reporter Taylor Rooks, Sanders shed light on when he feels is the right time to recommend a player go pro as opposed to staying an extra year in college.
Sanders of course mentioned the NIL deals that college athletes can now sign for a good payday, but he also made specific comment on his son Shedeur and the desire to see the Colorado quarterback go first overall in an NFL Draft.
With USC quarterback Caleb Williams the early favorite to go first in next year’s draft, Sanders seemed to indicate that not being the first quarterback taken could influence Shedeur to stay in Colorado for the 2024 season.
“Shedeur don’t want to be two to nobody,” Sanders told Rooks about his son’s NFL future. “He don’t get down like that… People [are] projecting him behind Caleb Williams, and Caleb Williams is phenomenal. But Shedeur ain’t no backseat rider.”

Colorado fans would surely love to have Shedeur Sanders return for another year, and it’s not likely at the moment he’d go ahead of Caleb Williams in the 2024 NFL Draft unless the latter’s play takes a downturn in the months ahead.
Heck, we’re not even sure right now if Williams would even go first overall with North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye also in the picture. That would depend on the team picking and which player they prefer.
It’s still awful early in the process for any 2024 NFL Draft talk, but perhaps this really won’t be Shedeur Sanders’ final season in college. We’ll definitely know more in the spring if teams will be able to draft Colorado’s red-hot quarterback, or if they’ll have to wait.
