Deion Sanders Fires Back at Colorado State’s Jay Norvell, Says Game Just Got ‘Personal’

You’d think college coaches wouldn’t want to give Deion Sanders any more bulletin board material than he already has—but here we are.

Colorado State coach Jay Norvell took a not-so-subtle shot at the Colorado coach ahead of their matchup this weekend and Sanders quickly went to his team to use it as motivation.

“I’m minding my own business watching some film, trying to get ready, trying to get out here and be the best coach I can be and I look up and I read some bulljunk that they said about us,” Sanders told his players Thursday. “Why would you want to talk about us when we don’t talk about nobody? All we do is go out here, work our butts off and do our jobs on Saturday, but when they give us ammunition, they done messed around and made it what?”

His whole team responded with a resounding, “Personal!”

During an interview Wednesday night, Norvell said, “When I talk to grown-ups, I take my hat off and my glasses off. That’s what my mother taught me.” Sanders is routinely seen coaching and talking to media members while wearing sunglasses with a hat on, so the internet immediately connected the dots

During a Wednesday appearance on the Buffs Primetime Radio Show, Sanders also commented on Norvell’s jab.

“I’m not going to get in front of you and change who I am just because you’re here,” he said. “I don’t do that. I’m consistent with who I am.”

At one point in the interview, he also said, “I’m a grown man, you telling me what I’m supposed to wear, what I’m not supposed to wear. Please.”

Colorado is currently the No. 18 team in the country after its latest win over Nebraska. The Buffs are now heavily favored to beat the Rams. Kick off on ESPN is scheduled for Saturday at 10 p.m. ET.
