Defender signs to make it five new faces at Stirling Albion next season

Stirling Albion boss Darren Young has made left-back Cameron Clark his fifth signing of the summer.

The former Queen’s Park defender makes the move to Forthbank from League 2 rivals Annan Athletic, who just missed out on promotion after losing to Edinburgh City in the play-off final.

Clark was a youth player with Livingston and moved on to Queen’s Park before joining the Galabankies in 2020, initially on loan before the move was made permanent.

The 21-year-old was a mainstay of Peter Murphy’s team in the second half of last season and was part of the Annan sides who won 3-2 and 3-0 at Forthbank.

He missed the first part of the season due to a long-term injury but returned for the Scottish Cup victory at Gala Fairydean at the end of November and went on to make 23 appearances, scoring once – in the 4-1 defeat of Stranraer in March.

Clark joins fellow new signings Robert Thomson (Stenhousemuir) and Aaron Dunsmore, Ross Davidson and Danny Denholm (all East Fife) for the upcoming 2022/23 campaign.

Experienced defender Martin McNiff was Albion’s left-back for the early part of last season and performed very well in the role until he was sidelined by injury.

Mason Hancock was brought in on loan from Aberdeen in January and the former Fulham youngster impressed in the full-back position with McNiff used in a more central role when he returned to the team before his recent switch to Dumbarton.

Assistant manager James Creaney can also fill in at left-back but has made only a handful of appearances in the last couple of years and will be focusing largely on his coaching duties.

Meanwhile, Stirling Albion will find out their schedule for 2022/23 when the fixtures are published a week today on, Friday, June 17. The Binos will kick off their cinch League 2 season on Saturday, July 30, with the Premier Sports Cup group stage beginning with a trip to Dumbarton on Saturday, July 9.

One friendly match has been confirmed so far, with Stirling due to face local rivals Alloa Athletic at the Indodrill Stadium on Tuesday, June 28.
