Deepening crisis in Ukraine leaves parents of students from Andhra Pradesh anxious

VISAKHAPATNAM: Amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine standoff, parents of the students of Andhra Pradesh who are studying in Ukraine are a worried lot. According to several parents, who spoke to ToI, the students are still undecided on flying out of Ukraine.

However, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv asked the Indian nationals, particularly students whose stay is not essential, to consider leaving temporarily. The Indian nationals are also advised to avoid all non-essential travel to and within Ukraine.

Speaking to ToI, P Rajababu, whose nephew is studying MBBS in Vinnytsia, Ukraine, said the latter is in regular contact with the family. “He said the Indian Embassy is collecting the details of the students and would fly the students out of Ukraine if needed. According to my nephew, students are taking a wait-and-watch approach,” said Rajababu.

KV Ramana, whose daughter is studying in a medical university in Chernivtsi, said he is anxious about the situation in Ukraine. “She says that flight tickets are not available for the next few days. However, she is no mood to return immediately as she is confident of easing situation with the news emerging over pullback of Russian troops from Ukraine border,” said Ramana, who works in a government department.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) asked the students who want to return to India temporarily due to the uncertainties in Ukraine to reach out to its helpline at 0863-2340678 or 91-8500027678 (WhatsApp)
