Deepak Chahar to miss Sri Lanka T20Is due to injury

MUMBAI: A hamstring pull while bowling in the third T20I against the West Indies at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata will keep pacer Deepak Chahar out of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, TOI has learnt. The series begins with the first game on Thursday in Lucknow.

While the BCCI hasn't come out with an official release on Chahar's injury, or his replacement, it's understood that the 29-year-old did not travel with the Indian team to Lucknow from Kolkata and has gone to the National Cricket Academy instead for injury diagnosis and rehabilitation.

"His injury looks bad. For all you know, he could be out of the IPL too (he was bought by the Chennai Super Kings for Rs 14 crore in the IPL auction)," a source told this paper. During the third and final T20I against the West Indies on February 20, Chahar had to leave the field after bowling just 1.5 overs, during which he took two for 15.

"Deepak sustained a right quadriceps injury during bowling while Suryakumar suffered a hairline fracture during a fielding attempt in the third and final T20I against the West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday," BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in the statement.

"They will now head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further management of their injuries," he added.

CSK may hold camp in Surat

The Chennai Super Kings may hold a 14-day camp at the Lalbhai Contractor Cricket Stadium in Surat from March 8 to 22, ahead of IPL 2022. "We're exploring different options. We'll finalize our camp venue in a couple of days," CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan said. CSK are the defending IPL champions.
