Organisers of a popular music festival in Ayrshire have today pulled the plug on the annual event.
Ayrshire Live can exclusively reveal that the organisers behind Prestfest 2023 have announced that the show won’t return in September.
The festival was due to run in Prestwick from Friday, September 1 to Sunday, September 3 with a host of top music acts in the pipeline.
However, the people behind the running of the event say a “lack of funds and rescources” have forced them to cancel this year’s showpiece.
In a statement the Prestfest 2023 organisers said: “We regret to announce that due to a lack of funds and resources we have taken the decision to cancel Prestfest 2023.
“We are deeply disappointed we have not received the funding to enable us to put on this year’s show.”
The statement adds: “Thanks you for your support in the past.”
This year’s show was going to be the 11th year of the event.
The news of the cancellation has already been met with dismay on social media.
Marie Wilson said: “We are so disappointed. After moving here during lockdown, last year’s event was absolutely fantastic! Why is there no funding for this community event?”
Dian McFadden posted this message: “Devastated, last year’s was amazing, such a good atmosphere in the town.”
Molly Stewart added: “Honestly one of the only local events I look forward to consistently every year.”
Last year’s event attracted thousands as they enjoyed three days of music and entertainment, witnessing more than 150 acts take to stages across town.
