Declare sport as an industry, apex body urges Union govt

PUNE: Urging the government to capitalise on the momentum created by India’s excellent showing at the Tokyo Olympics, the apex body for sports and recreation has called for the sector to be declared as an industry in order to achieve further success and for the country to become a truly sporting nation.

"Sport is not just a physical activity but it is a full-fledged sector. India is a sports loving country, and sport has the power to glue the nation on TV," Rajpal Singh, director general of Confederation of Sports and Recreation Industry, said.
